Liverpool legend John Barnes wants Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto at the club as he fits the desired profile
Former Liverpool winger John Barnes wants Liverpool to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto as he fits the desired profile. Neto missed a lot of games due to injury, but he has been sensational for Wolves whenever he played.
Standing at 1.72 metres, Neto has a low centre of gravity which allows him to keep close control and balance. He has the deceptive strength to protect the ball and hold his own against any physically imposing defender.
The Portugal international has blistering pace and dribbling ability to beat defenders and make long progressive runs with the ball. He is pivotal for counter-attacking and covering huge ground quickly to build lethal attacks, using his skills to be unpredictable.
The 23-year-old is comfortable with both feet and is a very versatile attacker, capable of creating chances from anywhere. He can play at either flank or behind the main attacker while also playing as the main forward himself.
The Portuguese’s technique and ability to see spaces make him a formidable creative threat to any opposition. He has the willpower and strong mentality to single-handedly change the trajectory of the game in his team’s favour.
Speaking to MyBettingSites, Barnes outlines Neto’s profile and qualities that fit the profile desired by Liverpool perfectly. He said:
“I’ve always liked Pedro Neto. Always liked him. If you’re looking for the profile of a winger that would suit Liverpool down to the ground, that winger is Pedro Neto. He would suit Liverpool more than any other club. He’s direct, he’s quick. He’s a bit like Mo Salah where he’s direct and always plays well. He’s had his injury issues which have held him back but you can see that he can play for any of the top clubs.”
Neto has made 18 appearances in all competitions so far, contributing with three goals and 10 assists this season. The only thing that stops him from dominating the top league is the recurring injuries that he has sustained.

A new PB for assists in a Premier League season
But we may not see Pedro Neto again in 2023.
The 23-year-old has missed numerous games for the Wolves, missing most of the 2020-21 season due to a knee injury. He also faced 127 days on the sideline during the 2022-23 season due to an ankle injury.

Neto could be a marquee signing for Liverpool, benefitting from another pacy attacker capable of single-handedly changing the game. However, his injury record is a big worry and the Reds have already faced frustration having classy players like Thiago Alcantara in their ranks featuring barely due to recurring injuries.
