Liverpool could aid Manchester United in securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League
Liverpool are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table while Manchester United are currently occupying the sixth spot. However, a good performance in Europe from the Reds could pave the way to the UCL for their Old Trafford rivals, as reported by Liverpool.com.
The next term will be using a Swiss-style format, where 36 teams will be participating in an eight-group block for a shot at the UCL title. This means that there are four extra spots up for grabs.
One of these four spots is expected to come to the Premier League which would give a big boost to the UCL hopes of both Tottenham and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United who are currently on the outside looking in.
Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool are favourites to win the Europa League which will provide a great boon to the Premier League’s chances at a fifth spot. Moreover, Manchester City and Arsenal are also in the Champions League and if either of those teams wins the competition a fifth spot will be all but final.
So, it seems like Manchester United will be needing a lot of help from their Premier League rivals if they want a shot at playing in the UCL next season. However, the Red Devils are closely contesting for a top-four spot and if they can overtake the Spurs and the Villans it’ll be those two who will need help qualifying for the UCL.
