Bayern pursuing Dutch coach, a big boost for Liverpool in their Xabi Alonso pursuit
Preparations for the new era at Liverpool are underway as the Kop prepare for a life without Jurgen Klopp for the first time in nine years. The Germany manager decided to call it a time to his stay at Merseyside earlier this year with the ongoing season scheduled to be his last with the Reds.
Multiple managers have been linked with a potential move to Liverpool ever since and the officials are said to be considering and evaluating a few options from around Europe.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has led the way as the expected arrival at the managerial position until things got complicated when Bayern Munich announced the departure of Thomas Tuchel.
Xabi Alonso is leading a history making Bayern Leverkusen team to the helm of the Bundesliga table while ending Bayern Munich’s winning streak. His side are yet to be beaten in the league and a potential invincible season could be divulging at Leverkusen.
Knowing Bayern Munich and their intention to dominate the German market, links to Xabi Alonso were expected. Although according to a report by AZ, Bayern Munich are now considering appointing Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
Arne Slot has been with the Dutch side since 2021 and helped them to a league title last season. The 45-year-old has also made his mark in Europe helping Feyenoord to the finals of Europa Conference League where they eventually lost to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
Tottenham were very keen to sign Arne Slot before appointing Ange Postecoglou, Slot instead penned a contract extension at Feyenoord. Slot has made very clear about his next steps being away from Holland.
Arne Slot said last summer:
“My next step will not be a club in Holland. If that is my next step, then I’ve failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I’ve always said the best league in the world is the Premier League.”
While Bayern’s chairman Herbert Hainer has spoke about high managerial turnovers:
“We have replaced three coaches in a not-so-long time frame. We want to work with a coach for the long haul. Hence, he will take our time thinking about it and analysing — and hopefully, hire the right one.”
