Surprise Contender? Ex-Liverpool staff member Gary O’Neil emerges as potential Klopp replacement
Liverpool FC have been linked with multiple managers since Jurgen Klopp announced his exit from Merseyside, and current Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has also been interviewed for the job at hand, per DaveOCKOP.
The Merseyside Reds have been speculated to have managers from around Europe, with Ruben Amorim being the latest of the managers closely monitored by the Reds. Amorim turned out to be an alternative for Liverpool’s first-choice in former club midfielder Xabi Alonso; however, he intended to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, which is when the club sought different pastures for Sporting Lisbon’s manager.
However, since his links with Liverpool emerged, he has been tagged as a as a favorite to replace David Moyes at West Ham, per transfer guru David Ornstein.
Where does this leave Liverpool in terms of the managerial search?
DaveOCKOP insists that the Reds can turn attention to another familiar foe in current Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neil.
For those who don’t know, the 40-year-old has been part of the management staff at Anfield before. He was the assistant manager for Liverpool’s under-23 squad, and the Englishman will already be familiar with Michael Edwards, whose first stint at the Merseyside Reds coincided with O’Neil’s time at the club.
Gary O’Neil will also be familiar to Richard Hughes, who was recently appointed as the sporting director at Liverpool. Hughes served as a technical director at Bournemouth when O’Neil’s was at the club.

Having already worked with faces at the helm at Liverpool, it would be a massive advantage to have the Wolves gaffer at the club and build on the chemistry he already has with those in charge. However, this does not guarantee that he would be the next Liverpool manager; this just serves as a suggestion that there is a possibility of the former Middlesbrough midfielder swapping the Molineux Stadium for Anfield.
