Liverpool will have to beat both Arsenal and Newcastle to sign English star this summer

As reported by Caught Offside, Liverpool and Arsenal are losing the race to sign English star, Lloyd Kelly to Newcastle United. The 25-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season which makes him an enticing option for clubs with financial restrictions.

Seeing how Everton and Nottingham Forest were both punished for breaching FFP laws, not a lot of teams are looking to splurge a lot of cash right now. This makes 25-year-old Kelly an even better option for clubs who are currently looking to boost their defensive line.

While Arsenal and Liverpool can both offer better facilities and more competition to the English star, they can’t offer him consistent playing time. This is why Newcastle United are currently in the lead to sign the 25-year-old defender.

The Magpies have offered Lloyd a longer contract than the Gunners and The Reds, moreover, they can guarantee more playing time than the two Premier League giants. Kelly who is still only 25 needs consistent minutes so he is now leaning towards signing for Newcastle.

Liverpool will likely have to shift their strategy and move to sign another low-cost defender. Fulham star, Tosin Adarabioyo is another quality defender who will be out of contract at the end of the season. However, the Reds will have to battle Manchester United who have been heavily linked to the 26-year-old.

While the team surely needs more options on defence, the more pressing matter at the moment is signing a quality forward. Between Darwin Nunez‘s inconsistency and Mo Salah‘s slow decline, Liverpool could find themselves shooting blanks on offence next season.
