Blow for Arne Slot as his confidant is unlikely to come to Liverpool
As reported by Liverpool Echo, Arne Slot confidant, and Feyenoord goalkeeping coach, Jyri Nieminen is unlikely to make the switch to Liverpool. It was expected that he’d be joining the Dutch manager at Anfied, however, Nieminen is more likely to stay at Rotterdam for next season.
The club has been scrambling to find replacements for John Achterberg and Jack Robinson. Earlier it was expected that Nieminen would be replacing Achterberg since he has worked closely with Slot since July 2023.
But the Finnish national has confirmed that he expects himself to stick around at Feyenoord for the time being. Since he was a professional himself and has now been a coach for over a decade, Nieminen has enjoyed football in several different countries.
The Finnish national has had stints in Estonia, Qatar, South Africa, and Holland to name a few. It is clear at a single glance that Nieminen has a wealth of experience and would’ve brought a ton to the table for the Reds.
However, pursuing a deal for him at this point in time doesn’t look good. The Finnish coach has two years left on his contract with Feyenoord. If Slot is still at Anfield when Nieminen becomes a free agent, we might see the team reignite their interest in him.
While it may look like a sizeable miss, a club of Liverpool’s caliber will not be adversely affected by missing out on Nieminen. There are plenty of Premier League coaches up for grabs and the Reds won’t have any issues attracting suitors.
