Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of West Ham star Mohammed Kudus
According to reliable Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus has an £85 million release clause in his contract amid Liverpool links.
Mohammed Kudus, 23, signed for West Ham United from Ajax last summer. The Ghana international went on to enjoy a strong debut season in England, netting 18 goals and supplying seven assists on top of that in 48 appearances. The talented playmaker’s form has seen him linked with a big-money move to some of the biggest clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has now dropped the news of Mohammed Kudus’ release clause which is there for the clubs to activate this summer. However, the player hasn’t yet told West Ham that he wants to leave the London Stadium this summer.
“Been told again: The release clause for Mohammed Kudus of £85 million is already active this summer,” Plettenberg tweeted from his official X account.
“RC can be activated at any time. It is not only valid starting next summer!”
It was an open secret that Mohammed Kudus had a £85 million release clause in his West Ham contract. It was believed to be active only from the summer of 2025 but Plettenberg’s recent revelation is a massive shift from what was reported a few weeks back.
This should come as a big boost for Liverpool, who are yet to get going in the summer transfer window. The Reds are embarking on a new era at Anfield this summer under Arne Slot. The Dutch tactician will want to reinforce various areas of his squad to challenge for major honours in his debut season in England.
Arne Slot will be extremely familiar with Kudus’ talent and potential as his former club Feyenoord will have faced the player while he was turning heads at Ajax. The Ghanaian has adapted to the demands of Premier League football very well and consistently delivered the goods for the Hammers, further underlining his talent.

West Ham may take comfort from the fact that Kudus has not asked for a move away from the London Stadium but the transfer window has a long way to go. The new update over the versatile forward’s release clause should prompt Liverpool to at least take notice amid uncertain futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz at Anfield.
