Luis Diaz could become a casualty this summer if Liverpool ends up signing a wide forward under Arne Slot
According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are open to listening to offers for star winger Luis Diaz this summer.
The Colombia international’s future at Anfield has been one of the talking points this summer. The 27-year-old has bagged 24 goals and 13 assists in 98 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool since arriving from FC Porto in January 2022, but continues to be a point of debate among the Kopites after some mixed performances this past season which has led to speculation surrounding his position at the club.
As per the aforementioned report, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on a potential deal for Luis Diaz, who could be axed by the club’s new recruitment team if they manage to sign a wide player this summer.
Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has emerged as a serious target for the Reds in recent times. The Merseysiders approached Newcastle over a potential deal for Anthony Gordon, who is currently away with the England squad at the 2024 Euro in Germany. However, the Magpies are only interested in doing business if Jarell Quansah moves to St James’ Park in a cash-plus swap deal.
Meanwhile, Diaz is currently away with Colombia for the Copa America in the United States. He has scored once in two appearances in the tournament, with Colombia topping Group D ahead of their mega clash against Brazil on Wednesday.
The ex-Porto ace had been a key player for Jurgen Klopp, but with him gone and now replaced by Arne Slot, he looks unsettled at the club amid interest from Barcelona and PSG. At 27, Diaz is operating at the peak of his powers, and while he may be frustrating at times due to his lack of end product, the Barrancas-born star’s tenacity, drive, work ethic and energy would be a smashing fit in Arne Slot’s system.
Moreover, the Reds have not managed to persuade Newcastle to sell Gordon, who would have been an ideal replacement for Diaz. The only way Newcastle would agree to sell Gordon to Liverpool is when we include Quansah in the deal. However, that is highly unlikely to happen given Quansah’s importance to the squad as a talented young centre-back with leadership skills.
