Liverpool have concrete interest in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson, as per reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are considering a summer swoop for Atalanta star Ederson.
Ederson has been a consistent performer for Atalanta since arriving from Salernitana in July 2022. The Brazilian has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A in the past 12 months, catching the eye of the bystanders with his passing, creativity, dynamism and goalscoring ability from the middle of the park.
The 24-year-old is coming off a fantastic season for Atalanta, helping them taste success in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen and finish fourth in Serie A. Ederson’s performances for the Bergamo-based outfit haven’t gone unnoticed, with Liverpool among the clubs keen on his signature.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his live show Playback that Liverpool have established contacts and held several meetings with Ederson’s representatives over a potential move to Anfield. While the Brazilian is one of the players in their summer’s shortlist of targets, the Reds are yet to send an official proposal to Atalanta.
“I would not be surprised if Liverpool go for a midfielder this summer, because, for example, they had several meetings and contacts with the agents of Ederson from Atalanta,” Romano said on Playback.
“He is one of the players that Liverpool considered in the midfield, but never sent a proposal, also because they know it’s going to be difficult, it’s going to be complicated.
“Atalanta don’t want to sell both top players they have in midfield, Koopmeiners and Ederson.”
Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds are looking to reinforce different areas of the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Despite revamping the midfield unit with the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch last summer, Liverpool could bring in a new midfielder to fill in the void left by Thiago Alcantara’s departure.
As per Fabrizio’s claims, our interest in Ederson appears to be concrete. Liverpool scouts ran the rule over the player several times and also had the chance to watch him closely last season when Atalanta eliminated us from the Europa League. The 24-year-old’s fine form for Atalanta has seen him being called up to Brazil’s squad for the 2024 Copa America, enhancing his stock further in the market.

However, with Juventus keen on Teun Koopmeiners, La Dea are reluctant to sell the Dutchman and Ederson in one transfer window. The ex-Salernitana man has the required tools to thrive in Slot’s system and become a long-term asset for the Merseysiders. Keeping that in mind, we must table a tantalising offer for Ederson that Atalanta would find it extremely difficult to reject.
