Liverpool star Jarell Quansah talks about his goals for the 2024/25 season

Speaking to his club’s in-house media team in a recent interview, Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has shed some light on what he aims to achieve in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

“I was waiting for the moment for it to click and stuff like that, but I don’t think I’m going to get used to what happened last season. I’m always a person who wants to improve and kick on.

“I look at the positives and the negatives, and I just try to take it all in and try to improve for the next season really. That’s what my reflecting sort of told me – it was just about how to kick on and how to be the best version of myself.

“It’s more of the same and to just keep improving. Like I said before, try to be the best version of myself and just keep getting better and better on the training pitch and being a sponge and taking everything around me that I can.”

Quansah broke into the Reds’ first team last season in what was Jürgen Klopp’s swansong at Anfield. His performances even earned him a call-up to the 33-man England squad selected by the now-former manager, Gareth Southgate, ahead of UEFA Euro 2024, though he did not make the final cut.

The 21-year-old is a Liverpool man through and through, having joined their academy at the age of five back in 2008 and graduating 15 years later. His current contract at Anfield, fetching him £15k per week, is set to run until June 2027.

Big season ahead for Quansah

Quansah’s performances last season are a big reason Liverpool go into this season a bit eased about their situation at the back.

While one can still expect them to be targeting a centre-back or two this summer, expect Quansah to be high up the pecking order.

Quansah thriving in the senior Liverpool setup will also be a huge win for the club’s academy, which has quite the track record of sending promising players to the senior setup.

However, Quansah and Arne Slot, despite both being promising in their respective domains, will need to prove themselves at the most competitive level of club football in the coming season. Slot will need to prove he can make the jump from the Eredivisie to the Premier League, while Quansah will need to prove he’s no one-season wonder and is here to stay.
