Liverpool could land Juventus prospect Dean Huijsen for £25m

According to Tuttosport, Liverpool could land Juventus’s rising star Dean Huijsen in the ongoing 2024 summer transfer window. The Bianconeri are ready to sell and the youngster could be signed for a mere £25 million.

With Joel Matip having left, the Reds need to bring in another centre-back to fill the void. However, a starting spot at Anfield is far from certain, meaning Liverpool are better off bringing in a prospect who is okay with being rotated while being integrated for a larger role in the future. Having missed out on Leny Yoro, it would appear the Reds have now zoned in on Huijsen.

Huijsen’s impressive loan spell at Roma last season saw him feature 13 times in the league, scoring twice, and contributing to a solid defensive record with only two losses during his appearances. Despite his potential, Juventus seems set on raising funds this summer, leaving the 19-year-old’s future at the club uncertain and presenting a prime opportunity for Liverpool to swoop in.

The youngster’s performances saw him earn the favour of Jose Mourinho, one of the greatest managers in modern history. A tactician with a keen eye for talent, it once again showcases the immense potential that the youngster possesses.

While Liverpool already have notable defenders like Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, and Joe Gomez, there are valid concerns about relying solely on these options. Konate and Gomez have struggled with injuries, limiting their availability. Van Dijk, a cornerstone of Liverpool’s defence, has just one year remaining on his contract, adding an element of uncertainty to his future. Quansah, though talented, is still young and developing, making it risky to depend on him entirely.

Additionally, Sepp van den Berg’s future at Liverpool remains unclear, with rumours of a potential move away. Given these factors, adding a promising young defender like Huijsen could provide much-needed depth and long-term stability to Liverpool’s backline.

An eye for an eye

While moving for Huijsen will see one issue addressed, they could find little joy on another front. Both the Reds and Juventus are keen on Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners, with the latter leading the race.

Should Liverpool fork out the cash for Huijsen, it should give Juventus the financial boost needed to secure the deal for the Dutchman. Given that we already have a young midfield and several options coming through, it is a risk worth taking. Huijsen’s potential is sky-high and we could land a player with a bright future for a mere pittance.

Pursuing Dean Huijsen is a strategic move for Liverpool. His youth and proven track record during his loan spell at Roma suggest that he has the capability to develop into a key player for the club. Liverpool’s defensive unit, while strong, has vulnerabilities that Huijsen could help mitigate. His addition would not only address immediate concerns but also ensure that the club is prepared for future challenges, especially with Van Dijk’s contract situation and the injury histories of Konate and Gomez.

Huijsen’s potential transfer to Liverpool would be a significant step in reinforcing their defence, providing both immediate support and long-term promise
