Liverpool want to extend Mohamed Salah’s contract until 2026
According to GIVEMESPORT reporter Ben Jacobs (h/t Liverpool ECHO), Liverpool want Mohamed Salah to extend his stay for another year.
Mohamed Salah has been one of the Reds’ most crucial and consistent players ever since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, winning every piece of silverware out there. He has been nothing short of world-class in the Premier League, scoring goals left, right and centre and shattering records year after year.
One of the club’s modern-day greats, the Egyptian forward could end his seven-year stint on the red half of the Merseyside in the summer of 2025 when his contract expires. While the task at hand for the club officials and new gaffer Arne Slot will be to find someone who can fill the 32-year-old’s goalscoring boots, Liverpool are expected to hold talks over an extension with the player.
Ben Jacobs claims the Merseyside giants’ preference is to extend Salah’s contract until 2026 to not only allow him to walk on a free transfer next summer but also protect his value amid Saudi links.
“With Mo Salah, the preference is for him to extend him as well, but if he does depart for Saudi in 2025 there may be less concern given Salah’s age and the fact he is to stay on for at least one more season,” Jacobs told on GIVEMESPORT (h/t Liverpool ECHO).
“Extending Salah is perhaps more with a view to protect his value and force Saudi deal-makers to pay a big fee in 12 months’ time.”
Salah has just one year left on his contract and has yet to commit to fresh terms. Uncertainty surrounding the Egypt skipper has been intensified by the supposed interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. He was the subject of a sizeable bid for Saudi side Al-Ittihad on last summer’s transfer deadline day which was rejected by the Reds.
Thus, Liverpool’s idea to keep hold of Salah and extend his contract until 2026 makes complete sense. The 32-year-old has been among the Premier League’s best players in the last four to five years, and losing him would be a devastating blow for Arne Slot and his coaching staff trying to rebuild the squad after the exit of Jurgen Klopp. By tying him down to a new contract—albeit only a year—we would be able to protect the experienced forward’s value and make the Middle East outfits pay a big fee if they want his signature.

The Reds’ decision to retain Salah’s services and not entertain any offers this summer despite him entering the final 12 months of his current deal is a statement of intent. It also signifies that Liverpool will do everything possible to keep hold of our best players and back the gaffer.
