Manchester United are ready to challenge Liverpool for the signature of Lutsharel Geertruida

Liverpool are set to face stiff competition from Manchester United and Arsenal for the services of Feyenoord full-back Lutsharel Geertruida. According to a report from Caught Offside, Erik ten Hag has identified the Dutchman as a potential solution to their right-back woes. Meanwhile, the Reds are keen on bringing the Dutch defender to Anfield, with new head coach Arne Slot eager to reunite with his former player.

Geertruida, who has been with Feyenoord since joining their youth ranks in 2012, has established himself as a key player for the Dutch side under Slot. Last season, he was instrumental in their campaign, contributing 14 goal involvements in 47 matches. With his contract set to expire in 12 months, his future at Feyenoord is uncertain, and interest from top Premier League clubs is intensifying.

While Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Geertruida, they are now not alone in their pursuit. Manchester United are looking to strengthen their right-back position, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s potential departure. Erik ten Hag’s side considers Geertruida a ‘Plan C’ option, behind Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries. Despite this, United are prepared to challenge Liverpool for the Dutchman’s signature.

Arsenal are also in the hunt, seeking competition for Ben White in their defensive line. The 24-year-old’s versatility and proven track record have made him an attractive target for the Gunners.

The potential signing of Geertruida comes amid ongoing contract negotiations with Liverpool’s star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The England international is in talks to extend his stay at Anfield until 2028/2029. While Alexander-Arnold is keen to remain at Liverpool despite speculation linking him to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have yet to make any official approach for the 25-year-old.

Slot’s interest in Geertruida goes beyond just a backup plan for Alexander-Arnold. The Dutch manager sees the Feyenoord defender as a valuable addition to the squad, regardless of the outcome of the contract talks with Trent. T

Securing Geertruida will give Liverpool a player who is ready to take the next step in his career. His versatility, ability to contribute offensively and familiarity with Slot’s system makes him an ideal fit for the Reds. While Alexander-Arnold’s contract extension appears likely, having a quality player like Geertruida as an option would only bolster Liverpool’s defensive options.

The competition from Manchester United and Arsenal will not make the task easier. It is not a good look for Richard Hughes and Co. if a player who played for Slot passes on the opportunity to move to Anfield, provided an offer is made.
