Liverpool star Kaide Gordon highlighted his aim for the 2024-25 season, putting his struggle with injuries behind under new management

Liverpool winger Kaide Gordon aims to gain more playing minutes during the 2024-25 season after returning from a long injury lay-off. Gordon earned a promotion from the club’s academy under the reign of Jurgen Klopp and gained several good opportunities very early.

The 19-year-old is still very young and despite the hinder in his development, he has a high reachable ceiling. Gordon has the opportunity to impress new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and his staff during the pre-season friendly tour.

He played for 26 minutes against Real Betis in the friendly after coming on as a substitute for Mohamed Salah. Many Liverpool fans are still hopeful for Gordon to fulfil his potential at Liverpool despite last season’s setback.

Gordon told Liverpool FC’s official site that his main aim is to gain minutes next season after his long-term injury. He said:

“Just hopefully get minutes. I feel like I need to get a good run of games this season so I can get back up to speed with everything and get back to where I was beforehand. It’s definitely different to how the old gaffer was, but I’m enjoying it so far and I’ll just see how the season goes, to be honest. I’ve been speaking to John [Heitinga] quite a lot, he’s helping me with my finishing and all kinds of stuff like that, my positioning. It’s definitely different but I’m enjoying it.”

The 19-year-old is capable of playing at any position behind the main striker, possessing pace, technique and dribbling skills. However, Liverpool have a very strong attacking department which could make it hard for the youngster to gain minutes.

Gordon plays naturally as a right attacking winger and the position is currently occupied by Salah. Last season, Harvey Elliott played as a deputy to Salah but Slot could prefer a player with more flair.

Nevertheless, many Liverpool fans are hopeful that Gordon will become another successful story from the club’s academy. The 19-year-old possesses the raw qualities that Slot could harness and turn him into a fantastic attacking winger.
