Crystal Palace to open contract talks with Eberechi Eze as Liverpool remain keen
Crystal Palace are making a determined effort to retain Eberechi Eze amid growing interest from top clubs, including Liverpool. According to Football Insider, the club is “desperate” to keep the midfield star and are considering opening contract talks to fend off potential suitors this month.
Eze signed his last deal with Palace in November 2023, which includes a release clause of £60 million plus add-ons. This clause has attracted significant interest, putting Palace at risk of losing another key player following Michael Olise’s departure and Marc Guehi’s potential move to Newcastle United. The club is contemplating re-negotiating Eze’s contract to either remove or increase the release clause, which is currently available only to Champions League sides. His current contract runs until June 2028.
The potential departure of Eze would be a significant blow to Crystal Palace. With the recent loss of key players, the club is keen to avoid further exits. Palace boss Oliver Glasner views Eze’s potential move as a major setback, despite the financial gain it might bring.
Last season, Eze showcased his talent by scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 31 games across all competitions. His performance has not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool and Tottenham showing long-term interest in the 26-year-old England international. The 26-year-old also featured in Euro 2024 earlier this summer, further boosting his profile.
Eze could be a transformative addition to their squad. While Liverpool boasts a formidable forward lineup with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez, they lack a proper No.10 who can dissect well-drilled defences and contribute goals. Dominik Szoboszlai is currently the only player filling that role, and Eze could provide much-needed reinforcement.
Eze’s proven track record in the Premier League and his recent performances for Palace have made him a sought-after commodity. For Eze, a move to Liverpool presents an opportunity to test himself at the highest level and compete for trophies. Liverpool can offer the platform for Eze to shine on big European nights, something that would undoubtedly appeal to the ambitious midfielder.

Arne Slot’s side would benefit greatly from Eze’s dynamism, flair, and creativity in attack. His versatility to operate in central midfield, as a No.10, or out wide would be a significant asset for Liverpool. Slot, known for his tactical acumen, would likely be able to maximize Eze’s potential and tailor his skills to meet the demands of different opponents and game situations.
However, with Palace now keen to make their move, Liverpool face a race against time to get the deal over the line. As for us, we hope the Reds go all out to bring in Anthony Gordon over Eze. The Liverpool lad not only is younger but has a far higher potential while also sharing an affinity with the Anfield club. We for one, cannot see the Reds adding both stars to their roster this summer.
