Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk admits Liverpool are working on transfers

Virgil van Dijk has voiced his belief that Liverpool must strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, emphasizing the need for new signings to compete across all competitions this season. As the only Premier League club yet to secure a senior signing this summer, Liverpool fans are eagerly awaiting news of potential additions.

With new head coach Arne Slot taking his time to evaluate the current squad, the Reds’ skipper Van Dijk remains optimistic that the necessary reinforcements will arrive. It is imperative that they do so sooner rather than later, given that strength in depth is needed to compete along multiple fronts in what should be a gruelling campaign.

According to The Athletic [Subscription Needed], Liverpool’s primary focus this summer has been on securing a new No. 6, with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi emerging as the top target. The club continues to work diligently behind the scenes to finalize a deal for the Spanish midfielder. However, Van Dijk, who is a key figure in Liverpool’s defence, has made it clear that more additions are needed to ensure the team can handle the demands of an extended Champions League schedule and compete on all fronts.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla in what was Arne Slot’s first match at Anfield, Van Dijk expressed confidence in the club’s transfer strategy. He said:

“I’m positive. I’m confident. I think that we should make some signings based on how long the season will go.”

His words reflect a belief that Liverpool’s management is fully aware of the squad’s needs and will take the necessary steps to address them. Hopefully, they repay the trust he has in them and ensure Slot is well-stocked to bring multiple trophies home. After all, injuries and fatigue derailed our quadruple bid last season in stunning fashion.

“I think they’re working behind the scenes and I’m fully convinced and trust in the club that they will do the right thing for us and get the best possible squad in order to compete in every competition that we are in. I have to trust and we’ll see what happens.”

While Van Dijk’s focus remains on the team’s immediate needs, his own future at Liverpool remains in question as he has entered the final year of his current contract. Despite speculation, the Dutch international confirmed that there have been no new developments regarding his contract situation. Hopefully, leaving the door open for further discussions as the season progresses.
