Mamardashvili set to be Liverpool’s first summer signing

Liverpool are the only team so far in Europe’s top five leagues that are yet to make a new signing. That is bound to change soon with a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili fully agreed with Valencia, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer insider has reported that the goalkeeper will be signed for a deal worth €35 million plus a future sell-on clause. He is set to have his medical with the Premier League giants imminently after which the transfer would be made official.

Mamardashvili will spend 2024/25 on loan at the Mestalla on Valencia’s books while Alisson Becker will continue to be the number one goalie for the Reds with Caoimhin Kelleher his back-up.

The Georgian international will join Liverpool in time for 2025/26, by when Alisson could have departed Anfield as his contract at the club is due to expire in June 2025 with interest incoming in the Brazilian’s services from Saudi Arabia.

Alisson confirmed recently that he rejected a proposal from the Saudi Pro League, mainly due to wanting to honour his contract at Liverpool as well as stating that his family was happy in England.

Giorgi Mamardashvili to Liverpool gathers momentum thanks to player's agents.
Alisson Becker will be the first-choice Liverpool goalkeeper for this season.

He will be a part of Slot’s plans as the primary goalkeeper for the ongoing season despite competition from Kelleher but it remains to be seen how his situation pans out next summer in the midst of an expiring contract.

Mamardashvili will not be keen on losing his prominence as the number one even after switching La Liga for the Premier League and therefore, it will not come as a surprise if Alisson is relegated to the bench if he extends his contract keeping his age in mind.

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old’s capture is good news for Slot who has had his fair share of frustrations in the transfer window while attentions in the club’s office have already turned to acquiring Federico Chiesa from Juventus before Deadline Day.
