For the most part, this transfer window has been one to forget for the Liverpool fans.
Up until this point, Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was the only player the Reds had manage to sign this summer, and even he is set to stay at Valencia for the season. Most other targets Liverpool wanted have just seemed uninterested to take the plunge under the new manager.
That deadlock is finally broken now, however, as Liverpool prepare to welcome their first summer signing at Merseyside.
Liverpool agree terms with Juventus for Federico Chiesa
As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have reached an agreement with Juventus for Italian forward Federico Chiesa.
The Euro 2020 winner has signed a four-year contract to move to Anfield, having also attracted interest elsewhere in the Premier League from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham as well during this transfer window.
The Old Lady, looking to usher in a new era under coach Thiago Motta, have been quite keen on moving Chiesa on all summer, having reduced their asking price for him on multiple occasions to get his €9.26m-per-year contract off their books.
A gamble worth taking
The obvious things to point out here are Chiesa’s injury record and the near-deperate manner in which Juve have been willing to get rid of him.
Nevertheless, for the reported price fee and Chiesa’s undeniable talent, this is unquestionably a move worth taking for Liverpool.
Also, given the dry nature of their transfer window otherwise, they did need to make a statement or two in the market, which they now have.
