For most part of this summer’s transfer window, Liverpool had failed to land any target they went after.
Until now. Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to arrive at Anfield next year, with Federico Chiesa having already arrived at Merseyside from Juventus.
And now, the move has started receiving opinion from outside the club.
Steven Gerrard delivers his verdict on Liverpool signing Federico Chiesa
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has had his say on Liverpool’s recent signing, Federico Chiesa.
Taking to Instagram, the 44-year-old kept it short and sweet with this story.
Gerrard is currently in his second season out in Saudi Arabia as manager of Al-Ettifaq.
Chiesa has moved to Merseyside from Turin on the back of a £12.5m move, having signed a four-year contract that will fetch him £150,000 a week in base salary.
During his four years with Juventus, the 26-year-old Italy international made 131 appearances across all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 23 assists.
Chiesa a gamble worth taking
In the last four years, 19 different injuries have seen Chiesa miss a total of 91 games. This is worrying, yes, and partly indicates as to why Juve were so desperate to get rid of their once-cherished asset.
But for the money Liverpool have put forth for him, this is absolutely a move worth taking. Chiesa comes into an environment knowing the odds are stacked against him and many are not giving him a chance. If he’s integrated into the squad gradually with minutes on the pitch every now and then, he’ll get the hang of the side while also avoiding the risk of injury as much as possible.
This right here is a signing that is likely to pay dividends in the coming seasons.
