Liverpool wants Juventus central defender Gleison Bremer to succeed their captain Virgil van Dijk in the future transfer window. Van Dijk is playing in the last season of his current lucrative contract with the Reds, earning £220,000 per week.

The 33-year-old has continued to deliver top-quality performances with healthy consistency despite his age with the club facing major decisions. Liverpool have a policy that stops them from giving lucrative contracts to ageing players nearing the end of their peak.

However, Van Dijk is an anomaly as he is one of the greatest defenders in the world and a leader. Liverpool fans adore the Dutch captain, who has firmly established his legendary status at Anfield.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool wants Bremer from Juventus to succeed Van Dijk eventually when the Dutchman leaves the club. Liverpool targeted a left-footed central defender to compete with Van Dijk and eventually succeed him but lacked a worthy option.

While Bremer is a right-footed central defender, the Brazilian has the qualities that could play a key role in the decision. Standing at 1.88 metres, the 27-year-old has an immense physical presence in the backline combined with his pace and stamina.

The deceptive quickness, domination in the aerial duels and great sense of positioning from Bremer are comparable with Van Dijk’s. The 27-year-old made 40 appearances in all competition for Juventus last season, acquiring 10 yellow cards and scoring three goals.

Bremer is reliable in possession, making good use of the ball with passing and progressing forward to create space. The Brazil is earning €178,077 per week at Juventus and would demand a slightly higher salary if Liverpool targets him.

However, Liverpool have Ibrahima Konate, Jarell Quansah and versatile central defender Joe Gomez as the established right-foot options. We think Liverpool should maintain a left-footed central defender as the priority despite Bremer’s quality that fits plenty of the desired profiles.
