Liverpool didn’t make many moves in the transfer market as the new managerial regime began. However, the club did manage to secure Juventus’ Federico Chiesa and 2024 Yashin Trophy nominee Giorgi Mamardashvili. The arrival of a new goalkeeper means increased competition. Amidst this, Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher has spoken about his future at the club.
Caoimhin Kelleher expects an exit from Liverpool
With Mamardashvili’s arrival and Alisson firmly established as the first-choice goalkeeper, Kelleher’s chances of game time appear slim. Recently, he shared his thoughts on the situation. According to Fabrizio Romano, Kelleher expressed a desire to reassess his future at Liverpool.
“I’ve made it clear in the last few years that I want to leave to be number one. Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like maybe that’s 100% my decision but maybe at times it’s not always in my hands as well”.
Kelleher has been part of Liverpool since joining the youth academy in 2015. After his rookie contract, the Irishman signed a five-year extension, with a reported wage of €10,000 per week. Now in the final years of that deal, Kelleher has not held back in revealing his desire to move on from his boyhood club.

He made his senior debut in an EFL Cup match in September 2019 and has since made 15 international caps for Ireland. During his time at the club, Kelleher has worked under the guidance of elite figures such as Alisson and Jürgen Klopp. While finding a new club may not be easy, Kelleher would likely be a good fit for several top teams. With Mamardashvili’s arrival and Kelleher’s comments, it seems increasingly likely that he will leave Liverpool after nearly a decade at the club.
