Liverpool head coach Arne Slot warns his players that “something is wrong” after they lost at Anfield against Nottingham Forest. Slot responded to suggestions that no squad rotation to counter the international break played a key role in the loss.

The Reds started the season strongly after registering three Premier League victories in three games before the September international break. However, Liverpool’s loss to Forest at Anfield provided a reality check to the club before the strenuous congested period commences.

The new format of the Champions League has added more fixtures this season and Liverpool have received some tough games. The Reds cannot afford to repeat the complacent performance that they produced against Nottingham during the weekend which proved costly.

Responding to the question about the lack of rotation (via Mirror), Slot highlighted that there is something wrong at Liverpool. The Dutchman negated the rotation factor but implied that the result was unacceptable and outlined that there were unacceptable problems. He said:

“Everyone can have their own opinion but it is too simple to put it down to rotation, but too many players not at their best level. If you drop home points in a game against Nottingham Forest then something is wrong. Forest made it difficult for us and when you don’t win you look at as many arguments as you can. I prefer to see the game back and what we didn’t do well and some of it was not related to rotation. We will never know if we would have won if [I] rotated.”

Liverpool players struggled to break Nottingham throughout the game, losing possession easily as many top players failed to recover quickly. Mohamed Salah and Dominic Szoboszlai faced most of the criticism due to their failure to create, getting very easily dispossessed.

Many fans unhappy with the lack of transfer activity during the summer used the opportunity to berate the management. A lot of players like Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz need to use this season to prove themselves.
