Liverpool are ready to battle Manchester City and Real Madrid to sign Inter Milan star midfielder Nicolo Barella next summer. The 27-year-old is a pivotal part of Inter’s team and he helped them win the Serie A title last season.
However, the Italian giants are facing constant financial struggles which could force them to sell their best players. Inter are currently fifth in the Serie A table, three points behind league leaders Torino with a game in hand.
They drew 0-0 in their Champions League opening game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, earning a crucial one-point. Barella played the whole game against Man City in Inter’s midfield alongside Piotr Zielinski and Hakan Calhanoglu.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool, Man City and Real want Barella from Inter to bolster their midfield during the 2025 summer. The Italian midfielder and Liverpool have persistently linked together in the transfer window for the past several seasons.
However, Liverpool have never acted upon their interest in the Italian, opting for other more suitable options. Liverpool revamped the midfield completely last season under Jurgen Klopp, signing several top talents at a financial bargain price.
The Reds signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominic Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo during the summer of 2023. Liverpool have Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott already present in their ranks and other loaned-out stars like Stefan Bajcetic.
While Barella has the quality and profile that fits the Reds, the 27-year-old has a contract that lasts until 2029. Furthermore, Barella is earning €231,538 per week and he would demand a more lucrative offer to leave the Italian club.

The deal is not financially suitable considering that the Italy international will reach 28 years of age early next year. At the same time, Real and Man City are the two clubs with unmatched financial power and wage cap for Liverpool to compete with.
