Liverpool star Jarell Quansah bounced back from an early setback against West Ham United to help the team win 5-1. The Englishman delivered a fantastic defensive performance as the Reds beat the Hammers in the Carabao Cup third-round on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old earned his first start since facing a highly-debated halftime substitution against Ipswich Town in the Premier League opener. Quansah struggled with the physicality of Ipswich attackers in that game which forced Arne Slot to make immediate tactical changes.

Liverpool won the game against Ipswich after a more positive second-half performance and Slot received praise for the tactical change. The substitution did not reflect negatively on Quansah despite a few fans and pundits raising the issue after the game.

Quansah enjoyed a steep rise last season which almost earned him a spot in the Euro 2024 competition for England. The Liverpool fanbase and hierarchy acknowledge the 21-year-old’s immense talent enough to sternly reject Newcastle United’s advances during the summer.

Quansah suffered an early setback against West Ham after a clearance from Wataru Endo deflected from him into the goal. The own goal provided the Hammers a 0-1 lead in the 21st minute but the 21-year-old showed maturity and calmness.

According to SofaScore, Quansah made eight clearances, one interception, and one tackle and won two out of three ground duels. Furthermore, the 21-year-old won 100% aerial duels while enjoying 97% passing accuracy from 108 passes also involving one key pass.

The England U21 playing eight out of 10 successful long balls, displaying his incredible ball-playing ability from the Liverpool backline. Quansah’s performance shows that he is a long-term project for Slot to develop into a key central defender for Liverpool
