Brazilian ace Alisson Becker is fully committed to Liverpool despite Saudi interest

Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Alisson Becker has emphatically confirmed his commitment to the club amidst interest from Saudi Arabian sides. The Brazilian shot-stopper, who has been an integral part of the Reds’ success since his arrival in 2018, recently spoke with former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart for BBC Sport, putting to rest any doubts about his future at Anfield.

Alisson: “I’m 100% Committed to Liverpool”

When asked about his long-term plans with Liverpool, Alisson left no room for ambiguity, stating:

“I am committed to this club 100% and that involves being part of the leadership group.”

His words will undoubtedly resonate with the Liverpool faithful, especially given the speculation over his future this summer. Saudi clubs had shown interest in luring him away from Merseyside, but Alisson’s loyalty and dedication to the club have never wavered.

The Brazilian’s comments come at a crucial time, with the club in a transitional phase under new manager Arne Slot. Alisson has nothing but praise for the Dutchman, highlighting the positive impact Slot has had on the team. “We were great before, but Arne is bringing to us a new energy and knowledge,” Alisson said:

“He is a really smart manager, and he is helping us a lot. You can see from how we are playing now.”

Eyeing the Future, But Focused on the Present

While Liverpool recently secured the signing of 23-year-old Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, seen by many as a long-term successor to Alisson, the Brazilian remains unfazed. His contract runs until 2026, with an option for the club to extend it for another year. Alisson has made it clear that he is happy at Liverpool and focused on achieving more success with the team. “I want to honour my contract and finish my contract here, or make a new one,” he reaffirmed.

For Alisson, the signing of Mamardashvili is a positive move for the club’s future but not a threat to his current position. At 31, he believes he still has plenty to offer and is determined to continue winning trophies at Anfield. His family is settled in Liverpool, and he remains fully committed to contributing to the club’s ongoing and future success.

Leadership and Stability in a New Era

Alisson’s role extends beyond just his on-field heroics. As a senior player and part of the leadership group, his presence is vital for maintaining stability during this period of transition. The goalkeeper’s backing of Slot’s vision and his commitment to the club’s future is a strong signal to the rest of the squad and fans alike that Liverpool is on the right path.

“His honesty and openness about the journey we are on is refreshing. We are committed to the plan and can see it is a good plan. We still have a lot to improve but we are in the right direction. We have a big gap to reach for our best, but we are doing well so far.”

For Liverpool supporters, Alisson’s words provide not only reassurance but also a rallying cry. His unwavering commitment, leadership, and belief in the club’s direction under Slot are exactly what the team needs as they look to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite. While the future arrival of Mamardashvili is something to be excited about, Alisson is clearly not ready to pass the torch just yet. With him between the sticks, Liverpool’s ambitions remain as high as ever.

A subtle message to Trent?

While claiming it to be a message to Trent Alexander-Arnold is pushing it, Alisson’s take on trophies is a welcome sight given what we have heard Trent speak on the matter in recent times. The Brazilian is keen to add more silverware to his tally but is far from making it the only criteria to influence his decisions.

Trent Alexander-Arnold can do with a statement similar to Alisson Becker.

“Winning trophies and awards makes me happy, but my motivation comes from inside, my family.”

In a recent interview, Trent, who is yet to one a new deal, revealed he is keen to win trophies. Not only are Liverpool in a position to do just that, but as a local lad, donning the Red shirt should mean more to him. Hopefully, he takes a leaf out of Alisson’s book and sees the big picture. The new contract extension cannot come soon enough.
