Arnaut Danjuma will welcome a move to Liverpool should the opportunity arise
Former Everton forward Arnaut Danjuma has recently revealed that he is open to the idea of joining Liverpool in the future. Currently on loan at Girona from Villarreal, the Dutch striker has expressed his interest in playing for both Merseyside clubs at some point in his career.
Danjuma’s admission comes as a surprise, considering his past stint at Everton, but his ambition to feature for Liverpool indicates his desire to compete at the highest level in the Premier League. Whether or not this potential move materializes, it certainly adds an interesting twist to his career trajectory, especially given the rivalry between the two Merseyside clubs.
The 27-year-old Arnaut Danjuma spent last season on loan at Everton from Villarreal, where he scored two goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees. Following his return to Villarreal, Danjuma was loaned out again, this time to Girona during the recent summer transfer window.
Interestingly, before his move to Everton, Danjuma held discussions with Liverpool’s current manager, Arne Slot, regarding a potential transfer to Feyenoord, where Slot previously managed. While the move didn’t materialize, it highlights the Dutch forward’s strong connections within football circles and his ambitions to play at top clubs.
Dutchman Doesn’t Rule Out Merseyside Return
The 27-year-old Dutchman, who earns £52,000 per week, recently revealed that he was close to returning to the Netherlands with a move to Feyenoord before ultimately signing with Everton. Danjuma shared these details during an interview with ESPN NL’s De Voetbalkantine, with his comments later relayed by FC Update.
“The year before [mid-2023], Feyenoord had shown a bit more interest in me. That was mainly when Arne Slot was coach there. I considered it at the time and spoke to Slot,” he said.
“I’m a fan of his playing style and have a lot of confidence in him as a manager. But I thought at the time that it wasn’t the right step for me. I think Girona is also a nice step now, which suits my career.”
The 27-year-old Dutchman, Arnaut Danjuma, struggled to attract significant interest from Premier League clubs after a disappointing 18 months in England, which included his loan spell at Everton. Despite this dip in form, Danjuma still possesses considerable talent and has plenty of time to earn another opportunity in the English top flight.
In an interview with FC Update, Danjuma laughed when asked about the possibility of training under Arne Slot. He then shared his thoughts on the prospect of joining Liverpool, saying:
“As a player, you have to be ambitious, and if a big club comes calling, you should always consider it. I don’t think many people would say no to Liverpool.”
Danjuma’s remarks reflect his ambition and openness to taking on new challenges, leaving the door open for a potential future move to one of England’s biggest clubs.

While Arne Slot might have once seen Danjuma as a player who could strengthen his Feyenoord side, that’s unlikely to be his thinking now at Liverpool. Danjuma may express his ambitions in the media, but the prospect of him being seriously linked with a move to Anfield seems far-fetched. Given the depth of talent at Liverpool and their ambitions, it’s highly improbable that the Dutch attacker will make a return to Merseyside to join the red half of the city.
Though Danjuma remains a capable player, the chances of him wearing the Liverpool shirt are slim, with Slot likely focusing on other targets to maintain Liverpool’s elite standards. After all, Everton and Liverpool operate on different stratospheres.
