Arne Slot is not taking his impressive start to life at Liverpool for granted

The Ange Slot era at Liverpool couldn’t have kicked off in a better fashion. With just one loss in his first six Premier League games, the Dutchman has already won over the hearts of the Merseyside faithful. Slot has not only taken on the challenge of filling Jurgen Klopp’s shoes, but many are already labelling him as the German’s true successor.

However, Slot remains grounded, aware of the enormous task ahead. While early signs are promising, the Dutchman knows the relentless nature of the Premier League and the challenges it brings. He understands that there’s still a long way to go, and staying focused will be key to sustaining success.

Following their 2-1 victory over Wolves, Liverpool now sit at the top of the Premier League table, capitalizing on Manchester City’s slip-up on matchday six. Although just a single point separates the two sides, having that mental edge can make a significant difference as the season progresses.

When asked about Liverpool’s position in the points table during the post-game interview via the club’s official website, Slot shared his thoughts, saying:

“Everyone is realistic enough, all the players they understand that six games into the season doesn’t give you a realistic view on the league table,” Slot said. “That is more like 19 games that you can feel, ‘Right, where are we?’

Slot’s words clearly show that he isn’t taking anything for granted in the Premier League. As we’ve seen in the past, fortunes can change quickly given the quality and competition in the top flight. Reflecting on his takeover from Jurgen Klopp and his start with Liverpool, Slot added:

“But it helps if you get some good results, especially if you bring in a new manager and being a successor of such a successful one.Everybody understands that if we’d have lost four or five of these first six fixtures life would have been a bit different to how it is now.”

Having a mental edge can be crucial in setting the tone for games and boosting the atmosphere within the squad. While being at the top of the table this early in the season doesn’t guarantee anything, it undoubtedly sends out a strong message. Given the start Ange Slot has made and the clear room for improvement, it’s evident that Liverpool are chasing elite standards.

Succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool was never going to be easy.

Securing victories in his first few games has likely strengthened Slot’s belief in his plan and, just as importantly, reinforced the players’ trust in him. With the team buying into his philosophy, Liverpool appear well-positioned to continue building momentum as they aim to challenge on all fronts this season.

Slot has not only implemented his strategies effectively but has also managed to extract the best from his players. Luis Diaz and Ryan Gravenberch, in particular, have flourished this season, adding to Liverpool’s formidable squad depth—something that’s sure to have their opponents worried. Continuing to capitalize on this strong start while constantly refining their game will be crucial to staying in the title race.

Liverpool are proving week in and week out that they mean business this season. Boasting an impressive defensive record with four clean sheets and only two goals conceded, they look like serious contenders. While Arsenal and Manchester City have battled it out for the title in recent seasons, Liverpool are very much in the mix this time around. With Slot at the helm and the team firing on all cylinders, the title seems well within reach.
