Arsenal legend Paul Merson warns Liverpool that Mohamed Salah is impossible to replace as he continues to produce prolific numbers. The legendary Liverpool forward delivered another fantastic performance against Bologna in the Champions League 2-0 victory at Anfield on Wednesday.
Salah provided a fantastic assist to Alexis Mac Allister in the 11th minute and scored a wondergoal for the Reds. The Reds have started the new season strongly, winning eight out of nine games in all competitions under Arne Slot.
The 32-year-old has continued his prolific tenure with the club despite the worries over his regressing abilities late last season. Salah suffered a surprisingly long injury lay-off last season followed by a late dip in form, costing the club dearly.
However, the Egypt captain proved his naysayers wrong by starting the new season strongly and showing his fantastic durability. As Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa to compete with Salah, they have negated any risk factor if his form drops again.
In his match prediction column for Sportskeeda, Merson warned Liverpool that Salah is impossible to replace despite the contract situation. He wrote:
“Mohamed Salah continued his heroics in midweek against Bologna in the Champions League. I just think it’ll be a nightmare if Liverpool lose him when he’s in this type of form, it’s impossible to replace someone like him. All things considered, I’m backing Liverpool to win here.”
Salah has scored six goals and provided five assists from nine games in all competitions for the Reds so far. The Egyptian legend is playing the last season of his current contract at Liverpool which earns him £350,000 per week.
Liverpool have a policy that stops them from giving lucrative contracts to ageing players due to financial risk factors involved. However, Salah is an anomaly in this situation as he continues to deliver performance and possesses a strong global reputation.
