Liverpool are league leaders six weeks into the league and Merseyside has very less to complain about. With a stellar defence record, Arne Slot’s men are yet to concede more than one goal in a game this season. As the only loss came to Nottingham at Anfield, the Reds are a point clear of defending champions Manchester City. While they’ll have to look over their shoulders for the ones choosing all season, Slot might know what needs to be done to stay ahead.
Arne Slot believes the Away Games form is something to be achieved
Liverpool led the Premier League in home games in the 2023/24 season. Being a point clear to Arsenal and Manchester City, they proved what Anfield brings to the table for them. However, it was the away game records that shook the deal for them. Jurgen Klopp in his final season with Liverpool could only manage 34 points against Arsenal’s 42 and City’s 44. According to the Mirror, Slot highlighted his views on what would be his notes to bring the season home with glory. Explaining how the narrow difference makes sense, the Dutch head coach said:
“If you are purely looking at it from a data point of view then it was a 10-point difference to City [on away points collected]. If you look at the home form of both teams then the £10m question is why is this?
“I think the home and away games of Liverpool are quite similar but in general it is tougher to play away because the home fans cheer very hard if their team gets a chance, they get more confidence from that,”
Anfield has been one of the most important assets of Liverpool football club since its structuring. The Merseyside boys losing at home is rarer than a blue moon. While their only loss this season is a home game, the reaction following explains how surprising it comes to them. However, when it comes to closing gaps and chasing clubs like Manchester City, a stellar all-around record is a non-negotiable asset.

Liverpool, who finished third behind Manchester City and Arsenal, were 11 points short of the league leaders. Moreover, the Reds have had a better home record than any other club thrice in the past five seasons. It clearly states with nothing much to show even after these numbers, it’s the away games robbing the Merseyside.
Keeping a rock-solid mindset irrespective of the stadiums they play in a week in and out is the missing key. As the season moves on, given the fatigue and intensity, every game could feel like an away one. It’ll be important for the Dutch manager to keep a healthy squad with fresh ideas to overcome the Manchester City dynasty.
