Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has been subject to links with a move away from Anfield Stadium as he struggles to find game time under Arne Slot. The Japanese international is the only available defensive midfielder in the Dutch head coach’s ranks; however, he has been reduced to a bits-and-parts role at Merseyside, with Arne preferring his countryman Ryan Gravenberch in the role instead. This leaves Endo with a decision to make, and a potential exit might be on the cards.
The 31-year-old moved to Anfield Stadium in the summer of 2023 as Jurgen Klopp looked at him as a stop-gap signing following Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s exits. And he did a decent job in the middle of the park under the German manager; however, things have not gone well for him in the 2024/25 season, as he has only accumulated 85 minutes of playing time under his belt, with 82 of the aforementioned minutes coming in an EFL Cup fixture.
Liverpool’s Endo faces uncertain future
Multiple Premier League clubs are looking to take advantage of the situation as they look to pursue a move for the Reds midfielder; among them was Wolverhampton Wanderers. While Wolves were interested parties to the 31-year-old’s signatures, they have dropped off the board wagon as Gary O’Neil’s side does not appear keen to secure the signatures of the former VfB Stuttgart midfielder, per Football Insider.
They have enough depth in the middle of the park and are said to be prioritising other positions in the upcoming winter transfer window.
For Liverpool, the club has limited options in the midfielder and no sale for Endo would be sanctioned unless a new face comes through the doors at Kirkby.
