Alisson Becker prepared to stay at Liverpool despite Giorgi Mamardashvili signing

Liverpool signed Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in an advanced deal this summer. The shot-stopper will join the Reds next season after spending this campaign with the La Liga side. The Georgian’s capture is good news for the club as he is a young star and will be around at the club for several years, especially keeping in mind that Alisson Becker is 32.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive at Liverpool next summer.

The former AS Roma star’s future has been a topic of discussion lately. He had been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer and revealed he rejected an offer to head to Asia some weeks ago, although, with Mamardashvili’s arrival impending, there were suggestions that he could head on an Arabian adventure next year.

According to a report by Football Insider, however, Alisson has no doubts about his future and is set to stay at Liverpool for at least another season. The Brazilian international’s contract is valid until June 2027 and he will honour it to the best of his abilities whilst welcoming competition from the incoming goalie, Mamardashvili.

Alisson’s decision to stay at the club would mean that he rotates with the Valencia man, most likely with one player designated to the cup competitions and the other featuring in the Premier League as well as the Champions League. It could also effectively spell an end to Caoimhin Kelleher’s career, with the Irish goalkeeper relegated to a third-choice role.

He was keen on leaving Anfield for a regular role this summer as well but it was not to be as question marks remained over Alisson’s future. Moreover, a combination of a lack of offers for Kelleher coupled with Liverpool not having a backup option apart from him meant that he eventually prolonged his stay at the club as Arne Slot’s secondary goalie.
