Liverpool, enjoying a stellar start to their season and aiming for silverware across all competitions, are facing a roaming dilemma as three key players’ contracts expire at the end of the season. One of the major uncertainties revolves around Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has spent his entire career at Anfield but reportedly finds himself torn between continuing on Merseyside or moving to Real Madrid.

Amidst this, reports from Fijaches suggest Liverpool are ahead of Barcelona (as they have right to repurchase) in the race to sign Spain international Óscar Mingueza from Celta Vigo as a potential replacement.

Liverpool are reportedly in the market for a right-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold enters the final year of his contract, casting uncertainty over his long-term future at the club. With no clear decision on whether he will extend his stay or seek a move elsewhere, the Reds are exploring potential replacements to safeguard their defensive setup. Earlier this week, a report by football365 claimed Liverpool have identified ‘three transfer targets’ as they eye a right-back to replace Alexander-Arnold.

Mingueza and Liverpool actually makes sense

The Spaniard, born and raised at La Masia, currently earns £19,152 per week at Celta Vigo and has made 66 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions before joining Celta Vigo in the summer of 2022. Mingueza has had a fantastic start to this season, registering two goals and five assists in just nine La Liga appearances.

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing him as their ‘chosen one,’ having ‘snatched the signing’ from Barcelona. With a €20m release clause, Mingueza presents an affordable option, and Liverpool’s interest in the defender is considered a significant setback for Barcelona.

Celta Vigo is ready to negotiate Mingueza’s departure, aiming to capitalise on the opportunity for a significant profit with the defender contracted until 2026. This complicates any efforts by Deco to keep him in La Liga. Should Liverpool move forward with the signing, especially if Alexander-Arnold departs, it could become one of the most talked-about transfers of the next market. With Arne Slot confident in Mingueza’s potential, Liverpool seems prepared to go all out to secure a player who could make a real impact in the Premier League.
