Liverpool had a relatively quiet summer transfer window, with Arne Slot choosing not to make sweeping changes to the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp. The only addition was Federico Chiesa, while the Reds also reached an agreement in principle to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in July 2025. Despite this, Slot has managed to achieve remarkable results with Klopp’s squad, leading Liverpool to the top of the table and performing well in Europe.

Liverpool did want to strengthen their midfield but missed out on signing Martin Zubimendi, who opted to remain at his boyhood club. While there are indications that the Reds might pursue Zubimendi again in the future, another midfielder has emerged as a potential target for a future switch to Anfield.

Liverpool could be linked to Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand

Brian Riemer, the newly appointed manager of the Denmark national team, has expressed admiration for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand who has played 60 games yet for the greatest Portuguese team and is earning £33,077 per week . Riemer understands the demands of the Premier League and believes that Hjulmand is destined to play for one of its top clubs, including Liverpool as he has served as assistant manager at Brentford.

Riemer highlighted Hjulmand’s personality and leadership qualities, reminiscent of past players who brought these traits alongside their technical skills. He is confident that the talented midfielder will eventually shine in English football’s top flight.

“Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City… At a certain point in his career, I believe he will arrive at one of these teams.

“His character, his leadership, his personality, and his communication are not very common in today’s football, and I was at many clubs, in Copenhagen, Brentford, and Anderlecht.

“It reminds us of the defensive midfielders of the past, who controlled the entire game, who led the teams, you don’t see that much nowadays. It’s something rare what Hjulmand has. I’m a big fan of his, I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with Hjulmand

If the Dane continues to develop along his current trajectory, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him appear on Liverpool’s radar as the club remains in search of reinforcements.
