Manchester City enter race for Liverpool linked German international Wirtz

Liverpool have endured a slow transfer window in the recent summer as the new head coach was forced to get along with a largely inherited side from his predecessor Jurgen Klopp. However, while the Dutchman makes do with the roster at his disposal, the chiefs at the AXA training centre have been planning and laying grounds to get any marginal advantage possible in the 2025 transfer intervals.

The Merseyside Reds have been looking to spend big as they are said to be grooming to go ‘all out’ to land highly acclaimed Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, who has been putting in some dazzling performances for his club and country.

However, while the Reds ponder the possibilities to land the high-flying German midfielder, Manchester City have entered the race and are ‘pushing’ to sign the Leverkusen star in 2025, per Football Insider. Pep Guardiola & Co. have been scratching their heads about a potential Kevin de Bruyne replacement off late, and in Wirtz they can land a player who is equally energetic in the midfielder and has very similar striking power.

For Liverpool, the fact that Dominik Szoboszlai is not working out in the middle of the park at Anfield Stadium is forcing their hand to look for a player who can grind off the ball and can bring that zest and technical elegance on the ball—this is where interest for Wirtz comes into the picture. However, with City entering the fray for his signatures, it would now be pivotal for the chiefs at Liverpool to pursue a move for Wirtz and start hearing out his representatives to set up a transfer around the corner.
