Liverpool faced Arsenal in a top-of-the table clash at the Emirates Stadium earlier today as Arne Slot’s side came out with a point away against their potential title rivals, and Reds captain Virgil van Dijk was speaking about the race at the top of the Premier League following the conclusion of the game.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are possibly one of the best teams in all of Europe, and they have been regarded as the favourites to win the English top-tier title in the ongoing campaign; however, injury concerns complemented by consistent fifty-fifty red cards have derailed the start of their season. They also faced Liverpool with an injury-depleted side, with a lot of their top players either not featuring in the game or taking off.
Van Dijk: Title race still wide open
The game had that aura of a six-pointer as both the teams went shoulder to shoulder at a thumping Emirates Stadium, and with the draw, many would consider a bad start to the season for Arsenal as Man City goes on to have a mega lead at the top of the table. However, Liverpool skipper Van Dijk acknowledged the title race, insisting that the Gunners and Liverpool are in the race along with Pep Guardiola’s side, and suggested that we are still very early in the season to look at the points table, and right now it is more about enjoying the ride.
Speaking on the title race, the Liverpool skipper said (via. BBC):
Arne Slot’s side have been enjoying a flying start to the campaign, and the draw at Arsenal should only boost their title credentials.
“I think someone said to me last year, Man City lost here and they won the league. We’re in October. I’ve read so many things that Arsenal are out of the title race if they lose.
“We’re in the business where you can be on top one week and then not. We are in October, and let’s see what it brings us at the end of the season. Enjoy the ride.”
