Liverpool show renewed interest in Liga Portugal ace; Anfield reunion on the cards

According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, the Reds have scouted Kökçü in consecutive games, signalling serious consideration of the talented midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad.

Orkun Kökçü has shown remarkable improvement at Benfica this season after a challenging adapting campaign. He previously impressed at Feyenoord, where he served as captain under the management of Liverpool’s current boss, Arne Slot—highlighting Slot’s high regard for him. Adding to the anticipation, Kökçü’s father has openly expressed support for a potential move to Anfield, signalling a promising path forward if Liverpool decide to make an offer.

Turkish international Orkun Kökçü, who has played 54 games for Benfica and scored 25 goals, initially struggled in his first season but now appears well-adapted to Portugal’s playing conditions. Earning approximately £50,000 per week, Kökçü recently impressed scouts from Liverpool, who watched him in both Benfica’s Champions League clash against Feyenoord and their weekend match against Rio Ave.

Kökçü has been a strong presence for Turkey’s star-studded squad, assuming a key playmaking role reminiscent of Luka Modrić. Known for his ability to progress the ball and orchestrate play, he has contributed nine goal involvements for the national team, showing his growing influence on the international stage.

The Reds gathered valuable insights on Kökçü, although interest from other clubs is reportedly growing. Benfica may be hoping these standout performances help revalue Kökçü after a somewhat underwhelming first season, where his reputation took a hit.
