Liverpool, currently experiencing one of their best season starts and currently having the league’s strongest defence, faces a looming issue as contracts for three key players are set to expire at the season’s end. Former Liverpool star Fabinho, now playing for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, recently addressed speculation surrounding the futures of his ex-teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, dismissing any rumours that he’s attempting to entice them to join him in the Middle East.

Since his 2023 move to Jeddah, Fabinho has been playing alongside icons like Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante, adding depth to a rapidly ever-evolving Saudi league.

The Saudi Pro League has become an enticing prospect for some of Liverpool’s top talents, especially with continued interest in Mohamed Salah after initial approaches a year ago. Several former Reds have already made the switch, with Sadio Mane joining forces with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, and Jordan Henderson briefly representing Al Ettifaq before returning to Ajax. Now based in Jeddah, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino will clash in the city’s highly anticipated derby this Thursday when Al Ittihad faces Al Ahli.

The Brazilian has his say about the speculations

In the latest FourFourTwo interview, Fabinho dismissed concerns about his former teammates’ futures, stating, “It’s not my problem any more!” Though he’s moved on, the 31-year-old still closely follows Liverpool and finds their title pursuit under new manager Arne Slot, Klopp’s successor, unsurprising.

In the words of the Ex Liverpool Number 6

“I haven’t talked to them lately and to be honest I didn’t see any news about them coming to the Saudi League or leaving Liverpool,”

“I know that some players like Mo, Virgil and Trent are at the end of their contract, and I think Liverpool are desperate to get them a new contract, but it’s not my problem any more!”

The pair recently made an impact in a hard-fought draw against Arsenal, fellow title contenders and both could play a decisive role in the upcoming Carabao Cup clash with Brighton.
