Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros delivered a sensational performance against Brighton & Hove Albion in Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup 2-3 victory. The 23-year-old replaced Caoimhin Kelleher in the starting lineup as the two goalkeepers compensate for Alisson Becker’s absence at Liverpool.
Alisson suffered a hamstring injury and he will miss several key games, estimated to return after the November international break. Jaros replaced Alisson during the Premier League against Crystal Palace and showed his qualities despite his position as a third-choice.
The 23-year-old earned his full debut against Brighton and played a key role in the Reds’ victory over the Seagulls. Liverpool gained a two-goal lead early in the second half through some sensation goals from Cody Gakpo but Brighton retaliated. Simon Adingra scored a goal in the 81st minute after a mistake from Jarell Quansah to put some pressure.
Liverpool scored a third goal from Luis Diaz in the 85th minute followed by another goal from Brighton in the 90th minute. Nevertheless, the visitors managed to nullify the countless attacks from the host in a very open game for both teams.
Jaros made some sensational saves for Liverpool to prove that he is capable of handling any pressure for the club. According to SofaScore, the Czech international made five saves, four saves from inside the box and two clearances for Liverpool.
Furthermore, Jaros enjoyed 62% passing accuracy from 39 passes and 50 touches which included one accurate long ball. The 23-year-old’s diving save in the 49th minute, when Liverpool had a one-goal lead, earned massive praise from the Liverpool fanbase on social media.

Jaros enjoyed an incredible loan spell last season, helping Sturm Graz win the Austrian Bundesliga and the Austrian Cup. While Liverpool have signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for the 2025-26 season, Jaros could play a crucial role. With Kelleher potentially leaving the Reds in the coming windows for a starting position and Alisson’s issues with recurring injuries, Jaros could become a regular competition for Mamardashvili in the future seasons.
The current goalkeeping roster is a far cry from the one the Reds had become accustomed to in the 2000s. Long may this continue.
