Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp breaks the norm that stops people from speaking the truth about Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. Ramos has enjoyed enormous tangible success as part of the financially-backed Real squad built to win major trophies for decades.

The Spaniard has won everything with his club and country, caring least about how he won. Madrid often deployed dark arts within their style of play despite having world-class players that they bought for massive amounts.

The 38-year-old played a pivotal role in Madrid’s historical four Champions League victories in a row alongside those world-class talents. However, the fans who witnessed their success as a neutral always questioned how officials favoured the Spanish giant without shame.

Madrid committed numerous fouls and offsides against the likes of Bayern Munich in their repeated clashes. They resorted to theatrical dives and consistently harming opposing players. They got away with too much to consider it coincidence, yet speaking out invites labels of “conspiracy theorists.”

However, some incidents are downright unfair and deserve condemnation irrespective of how far back they happened. Ramos committed a foul on Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah during the 2018 Champions League final.

Speaking to Toni Kroos’ “Einfach mal Lupen” podcast (via ESPN), Liverpool legend Klopp questioned the moral side of Madrid legend Ramos considering his past actions. He said:

“Is Mr. Sergio Ramos really a good guy? He’s not my favourite player. The action was brutal. Of course, he can’t know that it’s bothering his shoulder, but we all know that he accepted it very happily. I could never understand that mentality, I never had players like that and, when I did, I made sure they left.”

The Truth About the 2018 Champions League Final

Fans remember the final that the Spanish giant won 3-1 against the Reds as the infamous Loris Karius downfall. However, the game held more beneath the surface, as one early action from Ramos ruined the atmosphere of the entire final.

The Spaniard targeted Liverpool’s best player of the season, Salah and used a mixed-martial arts move in the 30th minute. Liverpool hounded the Spanish side during the first half an hour, enjoying 11 touches in the Madrid box compared to one from them in the Reds’ box.

Salah’s injury changed the complexion of the game and after a concussion to Karius, the floodgate of mistakes opened up, starting with Benzema’s 51st minute goal. Liverpool lost the Champions League final; the media changed the narrative to end Karius’ career while Madrid celebrated another trophy.

The dark triad – Unhinged social media’s narrative-loving fans, media and corrupt officials

Real fans and Spanish media alongside Ramos made sure that bringing up the Salah incident received mockery and shaming. They demanded the world to move on and like the noisy bullies they are, other people opted to let them enjoy their vanity. Bear in mind that a lot of these folks know what Ramos did was wrong and condemned other footballers as hypocrites only because they played for some other team.

However, the Spaniards lost the respect of many neutral football fans and people associated with the game, due to his methods. Despite playing with so many great players, Ramos always resorted to hurting the opposition’s best players with harmful intent.

For all the qualities that the Spanish defender had, his insecurities made the most noise in the big games. Despite having a record of 29 red cards in his career, the Spaniard survived many sending-offs because of the white jersey he wore.

Madrid is the perennially existing example of preferential treatment with a dark history that many new football fans are unaware of. A club that persistently whitewashes its abuse of power by achieving continuous success in Europe that blinds the masses and turns many who want to share their success, into devotees.

Ramos never trusted his own qualities or those of his teammates to complete the job without harming others. Furthermore, modern football has drastically changed since the time of Graeme Souness, Roy Keane, Gennaro Gattuso and Patrick Vieira.

The officiating scrutiny stops such violent behaviour yet Ramos understood his distinct advantage in Madrid jersey and he always acted as a coward. Ramos the bully would turn into Ramos the victim if he played a few decades earlier.

The 38-year-old’s actions will have no consequences, and his fans may pretend not to care, focusing only on the narrative. Yet, the truth will always stay free, no matter how popularity, noisy cults, or corrupt figures from the past attempt to suppress it.

The truth about Ramos was that he was the biggest coward in the history of football and his 29 red cards prove that. A world-class talent too insecure to let his footballing ability win him the trophies that he won.
