Liverpool are enjoying an excellent start to their season, currently sitting atop the Premier League and second in the Champions League new format table. However, Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool has been less than ideal.

Since his arrival from Juventus, the Italian winger has played just 78 minutes of football and has missed the last four games, including the recent match against Brighton. This lack of playing time has attracted interest from clubs in Italy, with MilanLive reporting that AC Milan is closely monitoring Chiesa’s situation.

MilanLive reports that AC Milan has identified Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa as a target for manager Paulo Fonseca. The Rossoneri are said to have proposed a swap deal that would include Tijjani Reijnders, who has established himself as a key player in the Milan squad, having already scored three goals and provided two assists this season.

It seems unlikely for Chiesa to leave

Tijjani Reijnders is a crucial figure in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad, recently partnering with Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch on the international stage. The 26-year-old, who has a contract with AC Milan until 2028 earning £36,053.78 per week, is valued at €30 million. Consequently, any potential swap deal would likely require a cash component from Liverpool as well. Given the Reds’ strong Dutch contingent, the possibility of this transfer can’t be entirely dismissed, but it seems premature for Liverpool to part ways with Chiesa so soon after his arrival.

Arne Slot aims to secure a midfielder in January and has identified a shortlist of potential targets. While Martin Zubimendi remains the primary target but the Spaniard is very unlikely to leave, Tijjani Reijnders follows closely behind. The Anfield club is actively contemplating this ‘crazy’ deal, and it remains to be seen if it will materialise in the new year.

With the intensity of the Premier League and the demands of competing for top honours, adding a player of Reijnders’ calibre would be a statement move for the Reds. The prospect of joining one of the world’s most prestigious clubs could be incredibly appealing for the Dutch international, offering him the chance to challenge for major trophies and further his development as a player.
