Liverpool are ready to sell fan favourite Wataru Endo during the January window as he struggles to receive playing time. New head coach Arne Slot has deployed Ryan Gravenberch as the first-choice number six and he has delivered performances impressively.

Gravenberch has maintained a high level of consistency as Slot prefers a player of his profile as a defensive midfielder. The situation has worked against Endo who suited the profile that former legendary manager Jurgen Klopp preferred in his tactics.

Nevertheless, Endo has earned praise for his professionalism from both the new head coach and the fanbase despite the predicament. The Japan captain has featured mostly as a substitute to shore up the defence during the late stages of games.

However, the 31-year-old needs more game time during this stage of his career with his international role facing potential consequences. Endo captains the Japan national football team which possesses a lot of talented footballers capable of challenging his internal position.

The 31-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions this season as the deputy to Gravenberch for the defensive midfield. The Japan captain played a pivotal role for Liverpool last season in their incredible Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Endo played alongside several young academy players who lacked senior-level experience but helped them find comfort in a high-stakes game. Despite coming to Anfield with an obscure reputation, the Japanese midfielder has earned quick adoration from the Kopites.

According to the Football Insiders, Liverpool are ready to accept offers for Endo during the January window. Liverpool failed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to boost their defensive midfield department during the summer.

Considering the hectic schedule that the Reds face throughout this season, a defensive midfield signing of Slot’s profile would become a necessity if Endo leaves the club.
