Liverpool left-back Cody Gakpo continued his incredible form for club and country, delivering a decisive performance for the Netherlands against Hungary. The Netherlands beat Hungary with a 4-0 scoreline in the Nations League on Saturday to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The 25-year-old Liverpool forward won his side a 20th-minute penalty for the opening 21st-minute goal from his teammate Wout Weghorst. Gakpo scored a goal from a fine penalty just before halftime to secure a healthy two-goal lead at the break.

Since the March international break last season, Gakpo has consistently elevated his performances, proving indispensable for Liverpool and the Netherlands. His ability to influence games under pressure highlights his growing stature as a top-level performer with high reliability at Liverpool.

In the match against Hungary, Gakpo displayed his constant availability for teammates with 58 touches and a 78% passing accuracy (via Sofascore). His creativity stood out as he delivered four key passes and one pinpoint accurate cross to his teammates against Hungary.

The 25-year-old’s determination in duels was evident, winning two ground battles and earning a foul through his quick reflexes. He made one successful dribble past an opponent and came agonizingly close to another goal by hitting the woodwork.

After the October international break, Gakpo’s form has been pivotal in Liverpool’s campaign during their congested fixture schedule against strong opponents. The Dutchman has constantly battled for the starting role with his in-form teammate Luis Diaz and the duo played together at times.

Gakpo’s ability to deliver in key moments at the crucial stage to change the game has solidified his squad place. For the Netherlands, Gakpo has become a go-to player in high-pressure scenarios, showing composure and a knack for delivering results.
