Julian Draxler, one of the brightest and talented German players from recent times, is set to leave Wolfsburg just one season after signing for the team. The former Schalke player’s agent spoke out about the 23-year-old leaving the club.

Fabio Parisi, Draxler’s agent was quoted as saying:

“He [Draxler] will definitely leave Wolfsburg at the end of the season. Over the summer, Paris Saint-Germain offered nearly €65m [for Draxler]. I repeat: Draxler will leave.”

This isn’t a new development as Draxler had earlier stated he would be leaving Wolfsburg, should he get the right opportunities.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Draxler said he would only move to a top European club from Wolfsburg. And both manager Dieter Hecking and Sporting Director Klaus Allofs had assured he could leave for the right offer.

“For me it is so that I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks

“Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want – which is to leave the club.

“I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs.”

Draxler was linked with a move away to Juventus before he joined Wolfsburg.  The deal though did not make sense at the time, since moving from Schalke to the Wolves wasn’t that great a leap. The German’s quotes now make sense as he could be free to move should someone step up.

Is Draxler worth the money and should Liverpool sign him up?

There is no doubt that the German is quality. Draxler had scored nine goals in 35 appearances for Wolfsburg last season and even performed well for Germany in Euro 2016. The 23-year-old is two-footed, is a great dribbler and can play almost anywhere in the attacking third.

This season he has a goal and an assist to his name from the five Bundesliga games he has played in. The price quoted by his agent though is ludicrous, to be honest. Draxler might be one of the better players but €65m is extremely high for a player who didn’t shine bright last season.

The flip side of the argument is that players such as Anthony Martial and Renato Sanches were bought basis their potential. And that is what Draxler has, potential, but he hasn’t performed exceptionally well in certain games, which could argue that the buying price is high.

Liverpool were linked with a move for the German last season but the price point is way too high for the Reds to think about signing him. Although he would be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s team with his creativity and work rate. The Reds would not be able to battle with the likes of PSG, Arsenal and Juventus for his signature.

Klopp’s Liverpool have great chemistry at the moment and bringing in a huge signing, who seems to be whimsical, could end up being a big problem.
