Remember Lazar Markovic? Well… Yes, he is still in our squad. He, however, is on the brink of leaving the club even after the transfer window has slammed shut, and maybe permanently this time around.

Reports from the Turkish news outlet Turkiye has claimed that Fenerbahce have tabled a £20million bid for the Serbian. The source further claims that The Yellow Canaries want Markovic on a season-long loan, however, their offer includes an option of making his deal a permanent one. The Premier League transfer window is closed now, along with other European countries’ windows as well, but the Turkish window runs until September 8, hence a move is still on the cards.

Markovic, who spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Hull city, was linked with a move away from Anfield all summer, with Watford being mooted as the potential destination. Markovic performed well under Marco Silva at Hull and even managed two goals in 12 appearances. However, with Silva moving to Watford, the 23-year-old was linked with a reunion with his former manager. The move, however, didn’t materialise for some reasons.

His misery at Anfield might come to an end now as Fenerbahce are offering him an escape route. The Serbian had previously spent a loan tenure with the Turkish giants, hence, is well aware of the league’s style of play. Back in 2015, he moved to Turkey but saw his season end prematurely in February because of a hamstring injury.

Soon after this, a loan spell to Sporting Lisbon followed, but with first team opportunities hard to come by, he was recalled in January 2017 and was sent to Hull.

Markovic was signed from Benfica for £20million back in July 2014 under the tenure of Brendan Rodgers and arrived at Liverpool with a tag of that ‘highly-rated’ youngster and for all right reasons. In his single season with Benfica, he scored 7 goals and helped his side in win a domestic treble. He also helped Benfica reach the 2014 Europa League final but missed the game due to a suspension.

In his first season with the Reds, even though he managed 24 appearances in all competitions, he only managed 3 goals. And now under Klopp, he has well fallen down the pecking order and the signings of Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has added more misery to his fate.

Should he leave, or should he not?
