Lazar Markovic has been demoted to train with the U23 Liverpool squad, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Serbian worked with Neil Critchley’s team in Kirkby, as per the report, and participated in a closed-door friendly against Crewe Alexandra.

The 24-year-old was close to joining Anderlecht on deadline day but the deal failed as the player could not finalize personal terms. as per the Liverpool Echo.

The report further claims that the Serbian’s career at Liverpool is over since he will be a free agent in the summer and has been included in neither the Champions League nor Premier League squads.

The Serbian has failed to live up to the hype, following his move from Benfica and it will be a miracle if we can ship him out before the season ends.

Lazar Markovic’s move to Anderlecht failed at the last moment as James Pearce claimed the player could not finalize personal terms with the club.

Kristof Terreur further tweeted that the deal fell through because of Markovic, as per Anderlecht’s manager.

However, Markovic had his say by claiming that money was not a factor in the deal falling through.

However, some fans weren’t taking Markovic’s side and shared their opinions about the failed transfer.

Markovic has spent time at Anderlecht and Hull City on loan but never managed to seal a move away. The Serbian would be a free agent come the end of this season but it would be a major loss for the Reds after failing to sell him for anything at all.

Liverpool’s hopes of selling Lazar Markovic in this transfer window were dashed as the Serbian could not agree to personal terms with Anderlecht, according to James Pearce.

Markovic was set to join the Belgian side for a fee of £2.9m and the player had even travelled to the country, as per Pearce.

The 24-year-old failed to show his ability during his spell at Anfield and a report from Liverpool Echo claims that the Serb could leave on a free at the end of the season.

Markovic served loan stints at Anderlecht, Hull City and even Sporting Lisbon during his time at Liverpool but he rarely made a significant impact for the sides.

There was interest in the Serbian from PAOK Greece but Anderlecht were close to signing him and the Reds even negotiated a 50% selling fee, as per the report.
