There was a lot of excitement as the draw for the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League took place with Liverpool being a part of it for the first time since 2009. The Reds topped their group after the last day win over Spartak Moscow and were possibly in the running to face a few other giants of European football.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or even Juventus could have been our opponents but the footballing Gods were merciful to us and now we end up facing Porto. The first leg will be held in Portugal on the 14th of February 2018 and the return leg will be at Anfield on 6th March.
We have never lost to the Portuguese giants in four matches thus far and signs look good for us. But the last thing we should do is underestimate our opponents who actually came out of a group featuring Leipzig and Monaco.
Nevertheless, there were a number of fans who were ecstatic with the draw and here are some of the best reactions we found on Twitter.
You’ve got to be happy with that Champions League draw folks. Porto are a good side but a side we are certainly capable of beating #LFC

I’m happy with the Champions League draw – no disrespect to Porto, but it’s an easier challenge than Real, Juventus or Bayern – and make no mistake about it, they’ll feel threatened by our attack.

This flag has gotta be in the away end for the away leg in Porto pic.twitter.com/FxEu8oCx4s

Porto away first leg?! Bring them on. It’s been too long since we were in the knock out stages of the Champions League! Up the Reds!

For once I can look forward to Valentine’s Day

Hide Lovren’s passport so he can’t travel in the first leg. Then tell him we’ll be playing in Portugal when it comes to the second leg.

The fact so many people think Porto is done and dusted already worries me. #LFC

Real Madrid/PSG and Porto/Liverpool are both on Valentines Day. Be a few relationships ending that night.

Supposing we beat Porto and the Scummers beat Sevilla – hands up if you’d like them next round? pic.twitter.com/mOKqiJ9u9P

Sure, LFC got one of the better draws possible. But make no mistake, Porto won’t be all fun and games. They’re a great team & they took out Monaco and Leizpig to get here. However, if we invest well in January, and fix our flaws, I’d say our chances are good. Forza Liverpool

Porto sit top of the Portuguese league & currently unbeaten in their league campaign conceding 5 goals in 14 games
They finished 2nd in the group stages losing twice in 6 games pic.twitter.com/SOkRaEpRhQ

Gentle reminder: #Porto beat AS #Monaco 0-3 away from home, and 5-2 in Portugal. They also beat #Leipzig 3-1 at home. Conceded 5 in 14, scoring 36. One of those teams who play out of their skin at home.
No sunny stroll in February this, for #LFC. #UCLDraw

Liverpool 4-1 Porto. The last time we played Porto was in the Champions League 2007. #LFC
