Daniel Sturridge of Liverpool scores against Chelsea

Liverpool were handed their first loss of the season as they bowed out of the Carabao Cup against Chelsea.

The Reds made eight changes to the line-up but couldn’t record a win against the Blues. Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring in the 58th minute before goals from Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard gave Maurizio Sarri the victory.

Chelsea also made numerous changes to their line-up as the two clubs face each other in the Premier League on Saturday too.

The visitors started brighter but Liverpool slowly got back into the game. The Reds handed starts to Simon Mignolet, Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno, Fabinho and Dejan Lovren for the first time this season.

After scoring a brilliant goal, the home side could not take advantage of their chances, with the referee not using VAR for two handball claims in the box.

The first goal from Palmieri could have been ruled offside as two players weren’t in line with Liverpool’s defence. However, Hazard scored a fantastic goal to seal the win.

The loss has come as a bit of a blow since we started the season with seven straight victories. Some fans were upset with the referee while others wanted the team to concentrate on the clash this weekend.
