Liverpool Player Ratings vs Villareal: Who Shone And Who Flopped For The Reds During The 1-0 defeat?

Villareal vs Liverpool – player ratings

Liverpool made a tough trip to Estadio El Madrigal as Klopp’s men gave away a goal in the 90th minute and lost the game 1-0. It was a lackluster performance by the Reds as there was no spark in the attacks. With Klopp deciding to give Sturridge rest, his team was not able to have that chemistry up-front and could not create many chances. Let’s take a look at how the players fared in the game.

Simon Mignolet – 7

The Belgian goalkeeper was tested a lot in front of the goal and managed a decent job throughout the game. He almost pulled out a clean sheet until the last minute when the Yellow Submarine changed the scoreline.

Nathaniel Clyne – 7

Clyne made a lot of runs and had a good work-rate throughout the game. He gave his side the depth on the right wing.

Kolo Toure – 7.5

Resolute defending in terms of positional play. Toure did not make any mistakes in handling the ball until the last goal where he could not catch up with the striker.

Dejan Lovren – 7

Had a good game overall. Man-marking was tight and did a good job at the back.

Alberto Moreno – 6.5

The Spanish left-back had one of the usual games where he was not tracking the wingers well and was not on his toes.

Lucas Leiva – 6.56

His pace was put to the test by the Villarreal players and Lucas was not able to match the tempo.

Joe Allen – 8

Allen

Allen impresses again. Allen got a chance to start in this big game and he did a pretty good job. Kept possession and was moving the ball forward with conviction. He got a good chance to give his side the lead but couldn’t finish.

James Milner – 7.5

Was given the responsibility of carrying out the attacks from the sides and showed good work-rate as usual and created some potential goal-scoring opportunities.

Philippe Coutinho – 5.5

Coutinho had a horrible game with no significant impact for his side. Klopp would have wanted his star man to be way creative in terms of possession and attacks but the Brazilian did not manage to impress and was substituted after the first half.

Adam Lallana – 6.5

Lallana was working hard for the game and was trying his bit to create chances but could not produce a moment of brilliance.

Roberto Firmino – 6

Firmino was chosen over the likes of Sturridge for this one but the Brazilian did not give much justice to the role as his first shot on goal came in the second half.

Substitutes

Jordan Ibe – 5.5

He came in for Coutinho on the 46th minute and had almost half the game to impress his manager but could not make the most of it.
