Summer transfer targets must have been identified and the reds should act quickly to grab new players before other clubs can go for the same player. Jurgen Klopp is rumoured to have a big transfer kitty this summer to build the squad according to his wishes. Klopp must have identified the positions that need an upgrade and the one position that Liverpool lack in numbers is the winger position which only possess Jordan Ibe this campaign.
Jordan Ibe has been an average performer this season and hence many wingers have been linked to the club such as Moussa Dembela and Yarmolenko but the one name that is rumored to be a target is Ajax wonderkid, Anwar El Ghazi. Let’s do a scout report on the 21 year old.
Background :
Born into Moroccan descent, the youngster joined his local club, BVV Barendrecht and then later was selected in the Feyenoord academy. After spending two seasons for the Dutch giants, he spent his next few seasons at Sparta Rotterdam. In 2013, El Ghazi joined the famous Ajax youth academy and played for their U19 League. The talented winger won the Ajax youth talent award in 2015.
Style of play and Strenghts :
The youngster has everything that is needed from a winger. He has tremendous dribbling ability and has some amazing tricks and breathtaking feints in his armour. El Ghazi stays with the defender and then waits for a run behind the market to beat him with pace and get an upperhand to the defender. He can finish the ball in style, and he looks up to Cristiano Ronaldo and tries his style sometimes. He ends up at the right place whenever he is needed, and has a great positional sense.
Playing on the right wing, the Dutchman has 11 goals this season and also has two assists. He has scored in big games this season, and has been one of Ajax’s players to watch out for. With 1.9 dribbles per game, he was the player with the most dribbles in the Eredeviese last season and also was the most fouled player.
Weakness :
El Ghazi has been accused of being selfish at times and is guilty of taking too many defenders on at the wrong time. That is why his passing accuracy is an average 77%. His defensive contribution also is a thing to worry as he like to wait in the opposition half to break on the counter. All these issues can be improved with age, and at the end, El Ghazi is a world class talent with a bright future ahead.
Anwar El Ghazi is rumoured to decline offers from Italy and wants to join a club in the Premier League and the reds prove to be a perfect opportunity to develop further under Klopp and provide a different dimension to Liverpool’s attack.
