Scouting For Klopp: 3 Defenders Who Can Replace Skrtel And Toure At Liverpool

Liverpool have to act smart this transfer window if they have to catch up with the rivals as most of them have a new manager at the helm which means a settling time at the new club will be obvious. Jurgen Klopp has galvanized the club like never before, but with all the progress made under him, two losses in two cup finals have been heartbreaking for all involved.

A major overhaul is expected at the club this summer and Klopp’s ruthless side will see many of the fringe players being shown the door. The area which is most likely to see two departures is in the center back department. Both Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel are expected to leave

as Skrtel has lost his place this season and had gone fourth in the pecking order. Besiktas has shown interest in the Slovakian and it seems the deal will go through soon. Kolo Toure is out of contract now and a new contract is not on the cards. Both have given great service to the club, but it’s time to move on and let’s take a look the three replacements for the duo which can compete for a place in the first team come next season:

1. Neven Subotic:

One of the boss’ favourite during his time at Dortmund has gone out of favour at the Westfalenstadion and is looking for a move away from the club to get some playing minutes under his belt. He is an experienced defender who can bring the stability and can complement Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip well. Subotic is just 27 year old which means he still has a good 3-4 years left in him and added to that, the Serbian is a ball playing defender which can work well for the Reds squad.

2. Jonathan Tah:

The 20 year old has risen into prominence this season and his brilliant form has earned him a place in the Germany squad for the Euros. He has great maturity which is not found easily at this age and is an old school no nonsense type of a defender which can help the reds in their pursuit of a top four finish next campaign. Many big clubs are behind him and if Liverpool do sign him, it will be a major coup as Tah has all the abilities to be a world class center back in the future. The attraction of working under Jurgen Klopp might work in this scenario.

3. Niklas Sule:

The 20 year old has become a mainstay of the Hoffenheim side this season and it is reported that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer. The heir to Per Mertesacker, the 6″ 5′ defender is as good as it gets in the air and is highly rated in the Bundesliga. If the reds have a chance to sign him, Klopp should not miss a chance as the setpieces has been the Achilles heel for Liverpool in the recent years.
